Buying Made Easy

The decision to ‘buy’ for our clients and the work involved requires a professional and methodical approach. The first two basic questions are: What type of wine is it? What year is it from? We will not accept any vintage with a quality rating less than 90 by Robert Parker – simple, straight-forward, common sense criteria. The following questions then apply:

  • Is it a wine we were looking for from our research?
  • Is the stock under priced – if so why?
  • Is the wine in good condition (ullage, labelling, correct storage)
  • What is the wine’s history?
  • Is it the right time to buy this wine?
  • Where and from whom did it come from? (anywhere prestigious or famous)
  • Is it an ‘up-and-coming’ wine?
  • Has it been publicised in any way? (Robert Parker reviews etc.)
  • Are stocks limited?
  • What potential does it have?
  • What is general market consensus?

By adhering to these questions of deduction at all times, we ensure that virtually nothing escapes our attention. It also means that 95% of all wines we buy stand to make a substantial profit. As far as we know, no other company performs this kind of detailed procedure for its clients.

Selling Made Easy

By comparison, selling wine for our clients is somewhat easier. Naturally, if the wine has been valued or a bid has been made, we will inform the client immediately who then makes the decision to sell or not. There are however some points to consider:

  • If the wine is performing well, is this the right time to sell?
  • Are you selling at the most advantageous time?
  • Would you necessarily achieve better results from buying another wine?
  • How many times have you bought and sold during the year (relative to tax)?
  • If the wine is rate, wouldn’t a long term strategy produce better results?
  • Do you really need to liquidate such a strong performing asset?

Bearing in mind that the wine is your property, we will respect any decision to sell without question – selling is simply a phone call and written confirmation.

What clients say about us

K Hutchison

“I purchased 8 cases of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2000 at $12,500 per case totalling £100,000. I was extremely amazed when Wine Assets purchased 5 cases back from me in November 2010 at £17,200 - that’s a tax free profit of £23,500.

E D'Souza

Without Wine Asset’s astute planning and advice we would not have had the comfortable retirement security we now enjoy.

We highly recommend investing in bordeaux wine but only with the advice and security that Wine Asset Ltd offers.
